2014 VILLAGE DUES
As those who have camped with us before know, dues help cover the cost of providing vital infrastructure that provides food, drinking water, showers and electricity (as well as our courtyard of art installations and public buildings, like the Carrot Dome and Pink Gym).

Dues are a sensitive topic. Most people don't understand that it cost over $40,000 to run Comfort & Joy Village last year, so every penny is important.

Here's a breakdown of what things cost just to get the village setup:

Truck rental = $3,500
Fuel = $2,000
Food = $7,000
Art Grants = $6,000 (to build all of the art)
Storage Rental = $1,440 (to store all of our equipment all year)
Water tank rental = $1,500
Water = $3,000
Greywater tank rental = $500
Greywater removal = $900
Solar power = $2,500
Sound system rental = $300
Cleaning supplies = $250
Condoms & lube = $150
Lighting = $150
Laundry = $100 (cleaning linens, etc after the event)
Ice = $400
Firewood = $150
Total = $29,840!! That's just to get everything setup. We also spend money every year on new structures, refurbishments and upgrading some equipments, and more, so that's how we get to $40,000!
If dues are restrictive to some, we are open to consider scholarship applications for reduced dues. Helping out through volunteering on and off-playa, especially for set-up and strike-down on-playa are great ways to demonstrate commitment to camp and support scholarship applications. Scholarship applications will be reviewed on case-by-case basis.
We welcome you with 'comfort' and tickle you with 'joy' - that's the benefit of camping with a long-standing, organized group who do tons of fundraising year-round and go back to the playa every year to upgrade our experience. Welcome home, everybody!
